10 Things You Didn't Know About Colloidal Silver

14 methods colloidal silver

We have identified 14 different manufacturing methods which can be divided into 5 groups. The five groups are (1)Grind; (2)Wave; (3)Liquid; (4)Chemical; and (5)Electrical. The electrical method is by far the best method to make colloidal silver.

chemical method colloidal silver

The chemical action method was probably the most often described before 1938, and, consequently, was the most often referred to in post-'38 literature. However, one of the real problems with the chemical action method is getting rid of the chemicals, once the colloidal silver is made. Second, this group of methods often produce mostly molecular suspensions, i.e., a majority of silver particles smaller than the 5nm lower colloidal limit. A third problem is establishing the uniform charge on the particles to keep the particles suspended. As a result, a fairly low grade colloid of silver is typically made using the chemical action method.

Colloidal silver sherry coloured

The color colloidal silver has, according to the description from Legge Roe back in 1915, is said to be "a clear sherry-coloured, a solution containing the metal silver in a colloid form, not as a salt.". Today there are only a handful of colloidal silver manufacturers who can make this same type of silver colloid. If you find a colorless colloidal silver, or one which looks cloudy like milk diluted in water, neither are good. Both can have serious side effects. Click here to read more.

colloidal silver 1919 product applications

Colloidal silver was such a success, many products were made with colloidal silver introduced in their manufacturing process.

Many Colloidal Silver Manufacturers 1919

Just as today, there were many colloidal silver manufacturers before 1938. Most of these colloidal silver preparations were of the chemical group.

Colloidal Silver Has Many Names

Colloidal silver is known by many names. Some of the most common ones are Collosol Argentum, Silver Nanoparticles, or Nanosilver. A misconception still used in the market today about colloidal silver is when they refer to it as not being ionic. Ag NPs, or colloidal nanoparticles of silver in colloidal silver (manufactured using the electrical method), are nothing more than charged nanoparticles of silver or silver ions. In order for the nanoparticles to remain suspended they must hold an electrical charge. If not, they start to precipitate to the bottom. Some colloidal silvers make use of gelatin or proteins to help keep the nanoparticles of silver from settling. These kind of colloidal silver proteins are not manufactured using the electrical method.

FDA Grandfather clauses Act Colloidal Silver

Many "colloidal silver" manufacturers make the claim the FDA does not want colloidal silver. This is not true. Back in 1996, the FDA published a proposed rule to declare that all OTC drug products containing colloidal silver ingredients or silver salts are not generally recognized as safe and effective, and are new drugs and misbranded. There is no surprise here. Most of these colloidal silver manufacturers do not make the same kind of kinds of colloidal silvers that were present before 1938. The grandfather clause is clear about colloidal silver, and the old research and records do not lie. Colloidal silver had certain characteristics which made it unique and effective. colloidal silver side effects

The main issue with colloidal silver is a side effect known as Argyria, a discoloration of soft tissue caused by the accumulation of the silver nanoparticles. This accumulation happens when larger, or smaller than the colloidal limits of 5 nm - 100 nm nanoparticles of silver are taken in large quantities. Usually colloidal silver home-kits make a very low grade colloidal silver, which can cause argyria. Properly made colloidal silver is a very complex process. Fortunetly for us, today we have laboratory grade colloidal silver available at very affordable prices.

colloidal silver modern uses

The list of uses is broad. Sufficient to say is colloidal nanoparticles of silver have worked their way into almost every industry today. You might even used them without realizing it.
